Q: Are you living off of credit cards?

A: No! No! Nobody should do that. We plan very carefully for the future, which involves putting a large percentage of our income into retirement accounts. Both of us have built up our freelancing work to the point that we can breathe easy for now. Working full time as we travel makes our lifestyle sustainable. We also have about sixteen back-up plans. Always have a back-up plan!

Q: How do you pick your next location?

A: Buckle up, because there's a complex process, and I'd like to describe it to you in exhaustive detail! We started in Bulgaria since we like to be near mountains. We Googled "inexpensive mountain towns" and went from there. Pro tip: Going to ski towns in the summer probably guarantees you will pay off-season prices and you won't be so hot you want to die. We always check the climate of a city on Wikipedia for the months we plan on living there, and we use Numbeo to compare the cost of living to other places we've lived. TripAdvisor is our go-to for figuring out if a place has the kind of activities we like. We look for apartments on Airbnb and VRBO. Many Airbnb hosts give huge discounts if you book for 28+ days. We research visa requirements very carefully -- it's particularly important to know which countries are part of the Schengen area when traveling in Europe; your time in one Schengen country starts the clock for the area as a whole. Finally, we check the US State Department's travel warnings. I also register all of our trips through their  Smart Traveler Enrollment Program. Safety first, you guys.

Q: Do you like freelancing?

A: Very much. I've always wanted to feel like my whole self at work, and now I do.
